Rainbow Mountain Peru 2 Day Hike – Overview

The beautiful Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain has become one of the best destination for trekkers and explorers looking for a lesser known hike.  Rainbow Mountain Peru 2 days trek will begin early in the morning and last all day.  Have your camera ready, as there are few places in all of Peru with scenery and landscape like the one you will witness while on the Rainbow Mountain Peru 2 days trek.  Llama herds, native people villages, the most diverse colored mountains and greenery all leading you to the most magically colored mountain in all of South America, The Rainbow Mountain Peru 2 Days Hike.  This will be one of the most memorable hikes you will get a chance to embark on while visiting Peru, and you can finish in 2 days!  Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain in front of you, and views of the sacred Apu Ausangate behind you, few other trails allow for this much greatness.


Rainbow Mountain Peru 1 Day Hike – Itinerary

Day 1: Rainbow Mountain Peru 1 Day Hike

8:00am- Pick up from the hotels for about 15 minutes to 30 minutes.

8:30am- Drive down to the south of Cusco, follow the asphalt road for 1.5 hours to Pitumarca, a small native village in the Andes. This village is located above 3430m.

10:30am- Arriving to Pitumarca, small walk around the town, we visit the beautiful Inca Bridge and the Colonial bridge and we keep driving to the head trail, we drive for 1 hour approximately to the head trail passing through local villages on the way. Right on the middle of the road we will find a Inca Site call Inca Cancha, we will get a small walk and explanation about the site, then We will drive to Quesiuno the trailhead. The drive will go gradually up to 4120m above sea level.

12:45am- Finally we get to the head trail of our amazing hike to the Rainbow mountain, here we will see an impressive view of Ausangate and a llama farm. We will get our lunch and Our walk will begin with a steady uphill hike following a path in the valley, this uphill is about 30 minutes, and is about 150m up, and then the hike is easier as you come to another valley flat.

3:30pm- We are walking the flat area of the hike and enjoying a gorgeous scenery.  After 45 minutes of walking and crossing the Pampas of Ausangate we get to the Control point.

4:15pm- Arriving to the control we will see some locals and have a small break for a few minutes before we get to our camping spot. We will have a few more minutes’ walk to finally sleep next to the community.

5:30 pm- we will get our hot drinks and enjoy the majesty of the Andes, later we have our dinner and we can go to sleep.

Day 2: Rainbow Mountain Peru 2 Days Hike

6:00am- we get our breakfast and get ready for the amazing day

6:30am- We are going to start our hike uphill again for about 45 minutes to enjoy the beautiful scenery of all the magical Andes. After about 2 hours we will get to the Rainbow Mountain, probably we will be the only ones up there so free time to contemplate the Famous Rainbow Mountain Peru.

8:30- time to contemplate the magical Rainbow Mountain Peru, optionally we can hike around the place to get some great pictures of the Ausangate Mountain Range.

10:30am- We are going to keep walking passing through the magical small lagoons and quiet flat place but this time is downhill, from this area we have the chance to observe the mountain that we are looking for. After hiking for about 45 minutes we will get to base camp to get some snacks and then keep walking back to the Road where our transportation will be waiting for us, finally after you got the magnificent view of the Rainbow Mountain and all the surrounding mountain ranges we go back to Cusco.

Our walk will finish by noon, we before we leave we get our lunch at Quesiuno the Trailhead and then we go back to Cusco.

4:00 pm we get back to Cusco and we drop you at your hotel.
